“As I’ve been known to rail against restaurant wine prices, I always like to pass along kudos to places that go against that tide.

Latest example: Charlie’s Restaurant and Irish Pub at the Water Street Inn in Stillwater, which is offering up a lot of bottles at less than retail. Check out these prices: $67 for the delicious Washington blend Col Solare, $30 for Silverado merlot, $66 for Masi Amarone Classico, $47 for Cakebread chardonnay, $115 for Nicolas Feulillate Palmes d’Or Brut (cin cin!).

Yes, those are higher-priced wines, and that’s where the best bargains fall on this list. But there’s a lot less gouging at the lower price points than at most other places, plus 10 very reasonable priced by-the–glass options.

With two swell wine bars (Marx and Domacin) and now this kind of pricing at Water Street, Stillwater seems to have become a veritable mecca for wining while dining.”
