Best place for a date night!

My husband and I have been here numerous times. This is our favorite place for a night out. The location is awesome! Within walking distance of everything you could ever want. We love the pub and Irish music! Their bloody mary’s are great, made with house infused vodka! I think the value for the rooms is wonderful considering the location and that you get a fireplace and hot tub! I completely understand that it is tough to keep up an historic building and to keep good help in such a seasonal location so I can look past a few bumps along the way. It is not a giant corporate downtown big city hotel chain…that is what we love! I also love the freedom, privacy, and intimacy it offers versus a B&B. I know we will be back again and again!

The Waterstreet Inn is absolutely beautiful; the period furniture added so much charm, and the comfort of the whirlpool tub and gas fireplace made the experience even more perfect!

Thanksgiving 2011 Stay/Brunch

My wife and I spent the night before Thanksgiving at the Water Street Inn. Then we enjoyed an excellent buffet on Thanksgiving day. The room was a large and set in a Victorian style with elegant furniture, beautiful wallpaper, a jacuzzi tub and a gas fireplace. The room service was excellent. The night before Thanksgiving we had an enjoyable time eating lite snacks with various flavors of Guinness in Charlie’s Irish Pub. On Thanksgiving day we had the buffet which was outstanding and once again the service was excellent. Our time at the inn was wonderful and I would recommend it to anyone who would like to step back in time for a brief moment. The only minor issue I had is that I am partially disable and it was a bit difficult to get around

Minnesota Lodging Association Presents 2011 Awards

The Minnesota Lodging Association annually honors some of the best hoteliers and companies in the state. MLA’s 2011 awards were presented December 8 at a gala awards ceremony at the Minneapolis Hilton. This year’s recipients include:

  • Minnesota Hospitality Hall of Fame Inductee ~ Jon Kennedy, GrandStay Hospitality, St. Augusta
  • 2011 Hotelier Of The Year ~ Nancy Vaske, AmericInn Lodge & Suites, Worthington
  • 2011 Allied Vendor Of The Year ~ IDeaS Revenue Solutions, Minneapolis
  • 2011 Property Of The Year (50 Rooms or Fewer) ~ Water Street Inn, Stillwater
  • 2011 Property Of The Year (More Than 50 Rooms) ~ Holiday Inn New Ulm

2011 Property of the Year (50 Rooms or Fewer) ~ Water Street Inn, Stillwater

The Property of the Year awards are presented to properties that provide outstanding customer service and that distinguish themselves as leaders in the community and the industry. The Water Street Inn is housed in the historic Lumber Exchange Building in downtown Stillwater. Built in the 1890s by lumber barons during the boom years of logging on the St. Croix River, the structure was equipped from the beginning with modern heating, plumbing, electricity and one of the first elevators in the state. The building featured 10 large walk-in vaults, which were used to house the wealth of the rich lumber families. Over the years, the building has been home to a variety of companies. In 1994, three local innkeepers worked closely with the Minnesota Historical Society and National Trust to restore the building’s historical qualities and begin converting it to a lodging establishment. The Lumber Baron’s Hotel, Restaurant and Conference Center opened in 1995. Part-owners Chuck and Judy Dougherty bought out their partners in 2003 and renamed the business the Water Street Inn. The inn features 41 guest rooms, all with double whirlpool baths and most with fireplaces, along with fine dining and casual dining restaurants, a pub and banquet/meeting rooms for up to 300 people. A $1 million renovation of the ballroom and guest rooms was recently completed. Owners Chuck and Judy had previous experience in the lodging industry, owning the Rivertown Inn B&B in Stillwater from 1987 to 1999. In 1993, they purchased another historic home in Stillwater, which they renovated and operated as the Cover Park Manor. They continue to run the manor, where they live with their four daughters

The rooms are amazing here – so much character and charm! We loved our stay in a whirlpool suite overlooking the St Croix. The staff was very helpful with any of our requests and we will definitely be staying here again.

Room Tip:Go for the suite overlooking the river – you won’t be disappointed.

Everything was wonderful. The staff was very friendly and we even received a free upgrade to our room. Not sure why, but it doesn’t matter. We purchased the romance package. It was great to get to our room with a cold bottle of champagne waiting for us!! The dinner was spectacular (I had the best salmon) and breakfast was wonderful. I don’t think we’ll stay anywhere else when we come to Stillwater again!

The room was very nice. Eclectic lobby. Adequate parking -
it’s easier to enter the back of the building, rather than the main front lobby
entrance. Excellent breakfast!

We escaped from Minneapolis for a day and spent the night at the Water Street Inn. It’s in a wonderful location overlooking the river and bridge, and only a block from shopping and dining. A little bit of old charm. The staff was friendly and helpful.
