8th ANNUAL GENT’S NIGHT OUT Irish Whiskey

February 24th, 2011 by chuck

8th ANNUAL GENT’S NIGHT OUT

March 10th 2011

6 P.M.  SOCIAL TIME:

BUTLER PASSED HORS D’OEUVRES

Walleye Dumplings with a lemon burre blanc,

Mushroom Poppers filled with Italian sausage,

parmesan cheese and mozzarella cheese,

Smoked Salmon Crostini

served with Water Street Inn’s

Applejack Spiced Jameson

7 P.M.  START WITH:

Blacken Seared Sea Scallops

With Parsley Pesto

Served with

Tullamore Dew 12 Year

Medium amber color. Multigrain flour, pear crème brulee and sweet floral honey aromas. A soft, supple entry leads to a dryish medium-to-full body of raisin compote, praline, white nuts, and pastry dough flavors. Finishes with a lively, peppery spiced nut fade

        Moroccan Vegetable Soup

The Creamy Parsnip and Pumpkin gives this soup a

wonderfully rich texture

served with

Kilbeggan

There is a spirited malt that is almost honey sweet which opens the door for the grain to add a solid strong middle to this Irish whiskey.  The finish is very dry with oak and a dry cocoa bitterness that plays well with the bitter and sweet taste.  The finish, although not overly complex, stays with you in a pleasant and inviting way.

Seared Porterhouse Steak

With A Lemon Herb Marmalade, Served with Steakhouse Potatoes

and Asparagus

served with

Connemara Peated Irish Whiskey

Silky smooth with a honey sweet start, followed by more complex aromas of malt and fruit giving way to the intensifying full bodied peat. A well-balanced yet complex taste with vanilla oak notes.

Creamy Chocolate Cheesecake

served with

Tyrconnell Single Malt

The citrusy, and young malt feel that was given at the nose come back in to play as it makes its first impression.  This lasts for a much longer time than in many whiskeys while the Tyrconnell decides if it is a dry or sweet Irish whiskey, then the decision is made, as the sweetness wins out.  The citrus theme carries throughout the taste and is joined right at the end with a bit of chocolate.
