Five Course Whiskey and Cigar Dinner

November 10th, 2014 by chuck

Five Course Whiskey and Cigar Dinner
Presented by Chris Johnson of Wirtz Beverage
Thursday, December 4th, 2014
Historic Water Street Inn

6 P.M. SOCIAL HOUR:
Butler Passed Hors D’oeuvres
Jim Beam Black
Elegant. Smooth. Refined. That’s what aging will do to a bourbon. A premium bourbon with a more flavorful character. Meant to be sipped and savored. Our premium 86-proof, extra aged bourbon spends twice as long in white oak barrels than original Jim Beam®. It’s those extra years of aging that give Jim Beam Black® its full bodied flavor with smooth caramel and warm oak notes.

7 P.M. START WITH:
APPETIZER
Truffled Sea Scallops
Served on Roasted Parsnip Parmesan Puree and Micro Greens
Served With ~ Jim Beam Signature Craft – Quarter Cask
Introducing Jim Beam Signature Craft Quarter Cask. Base bourbon finished with a variety of fine quarter cask bourbons, all aged at least four years in smaller barrels. Boasting notes of vanilla, oak, and a hint of caramel, this spirit should be enjoyed neat or on the rocks.

SALAD
Smoked Salmon Salad
Mustard Greens with Goat Cheese, Whiskey Soaked Craisins, Roasted Pecans and Champaign Vinaigrette
Served With ~ Jim Beam Signature Craft – 12 Year
Introducing the Jim Beam Signature Craft 12 Year. Our hand crafted bourbon is made from the finest ingredients available to our master distillers, and carries notes of caramel, deep vanilla and oak. Never compromised, this spirit should be savored neat or on the rocks.

ENTREE
Blue Cheese and Bourbon Candied Bacon Bone-In Ribeye
Served with Brown Sugar and Honey Whipped Yams
Served with ~ Jim Beam Single Barrel
For those who take their bourbon a bit more seriously, there’s Jim Beam® Single Barrel. Our master distillers carefully select each barrel by hand—less than one percent are chosen for Jim Beam® Single Barrel—ensuring the highest quality and craft. No two barrels are the same, and each is individually bottled, labeled and hand-numbered so that its heritage is unquestionable. Every glass is full-bodied and smooth with attributes of oak, vanilla and caramel. Sip it neat or savor it on the rocks. After all, it’s some of the very best bourbon our family has ever produced.

DESSERT
Bourbon Apple Bread Pudding
Fresh Whipped Cream and Southern Praline Sauce
Served with ~ Jim Beam Signature Craft – Brandy Finished
The first rollout in Jim Beam’s premium Signature Craft series, this Bourbon is finished with Spanish brandy. It’s delicious; dried fruit, vanilla and praline notes are chased by a long finish that winds into ginger and cinnamon. It grows richer and fruiter the longer it’s allowed to open in the glass.

$74.95 per person (plus tax & Gratuity) ~ includes 2 Hand-Rolled Cigars

6 P.M. SOCIAL HOUR:
Butler Passed Hors D’oeuvres
Smoked Haddock Spread on Oat Crackers
Served with ~ Stratheden
Stratheden Distillery – 1829-1926 –
Sweet and peppery to taste, at bottled strength, with a trace of salt and a warming, medium-length finish. Lingering heat. Similar profile with water, at reduced levels, but without the salt and warm finish.

7 P.M. START WITH:
APPETIZER
Scotch Eggs
Hard boiled Free-Range egg, wrapped in house-made sausage, breaded and fried
Served with ~ Stratheden Vintage
Stratheden Distillery – 1829-1926 –
Surprisstratheden-bottle_180x1000ingly sweet and peppery to taste, at bottled strength, with a trace of salt and a warming, medium-length finish. Lingering heat.

Similar profile with water, at reduced levels, but with more fruit.

SALAD
Bibb, Arugula, and Nasturtium with Toffee Walnuts and Roasted Shallot Vinaigrette
Served with ~ Gerston
The Gerston Distilleries- 1796-1882 & 1886-1914 –

ENTREE
Pork Porterhouse with Charred Apple Demi-Glace, “Neeps” and Mash

Smooth texture, sweet taste and a surprising amount of smoke in the finish – more coal smoke/steam engine than peat smoke. An unusual, antique taste, which holds up well with a drop of water, although the smoky element is reduced.

DESSERT
Pear Tart
Served with ~ Auchnagie
Auchnagie Distillery – 1812-1911 –
Very sweet to taste at bottled strength, with considerable spice across the tongue and a warming, medium-length finish. Fruity boiled sweets in the aftertaste. At reduced strength it is less sweet and less spicy, but remains fruity, with a trace of vanilla sponge – Eve’s Pudding.

Live Music Schedule for Charlie’s

June 11th, 2014 by chuck

Charlies Pub Rest - FINAL copy

Live music for Charlie’s Irish Pub in the Historic Water Street Inn located in downtown Stillwater. Charlie’s Pub features live music every Friday and Saturday night from 7:30pm-11:30pm
(On the Patio weather permitting.)

August 29 & 30 – Sister Tree & Broken Spoke
SisterTree entwines traditional and original sentiments gathered among sessions in Minnesota, Montana, New York, and Texas, working with Irish Dance gurus, Old Time revivalists, New Age hipsters, and all who love romping in the woods. This lyrical duo features radiant, expansive harmonies for voices, fiddle, mandolin, and guitar. From lilting lullabies to rollicking tune sets, SisterTree explores the storied landscapes of the adventurous heart, calloused hand, and prodigious mind. SisterTree will bring you to a place of beauty, carry you away from all cares, and make you feel at home wherever you may find yourself.

September 5th & 6th – Paul and Lorraine
Paul and Lorraine started with a rouge folk band (Folk Underground), then split off to form their own duo. They bring a wide variety to the table, including: lots of drinking, lots of losing your love, plenty of death, doom, and destruction, along with happy little nights in the Pub. They take requests and will play almost anything (if they know about half of it!)

September 12th & 13th – Bedlam
Bedlam is a band born out of the talent pool of the MN Renaissance Festival. Over the years the band has had a diverse sound and many different members. Its recent incarnation is a folk band with a hippie attitude. Many familiar songs with a different slant along with some original material as well. As the name implies a stage with this group on it is not a very stable one and you never know who may show up and sit in on a set.

September 19th & 20th – Hounds of Finn
A high-energy Irish musical entity forged from the roots of Celtic and American traditions. Based in St. Paul, MN, the Hounds perform Irish folk-rock and roots music from around the world, along with their own original material-topped off with a sprinkling of traditional Irish and Scottish tunes. One of Charlie’s Favorites!

September 26th & 27th -Broken Spoke
A high-energy Irish/folk band based in Saint Paul, MN highlighting the sweet stringed sounds of the fiddle, stand-up bass, guitar, and mandolin. Traditional Irish Music and Irish Rock with a twist! Broken Spoke never fail to deliver an outstanding performance that will have you up on your feet before you know it!

October 3rd & 4th – Barry Nelson
Born in Belfast Co. Antrim Ireland. Barry has been playing music since his early teens performing in Ireland, England, Denmark, and Sweden currently based Ireland. He has crisscrossed the U.S.A. many times from Cape Cod to Florida, Maryland to Minnesota. He has played with Coribb Folk, Pennywhistle, and as a solo artist for the former Irish Prime Minster Albert Reynolds and President Ronald Regan. He is never short of a toast, song or story so come listen sing and party with Barry Nelson.

One of Charlie’s Favorites!

October 24th & 25th – Tom Dahill
Tom Dahill and Ginny Johnson are superb entertainers with a fantastic repertoire of old Irish songs and dance tunes that you won’t hear from anyone else. They have command of many instruments between them; Irish button accordion, concertina, uilleann pipes, fiddle, whistle, bodhrán, guitar and they sort of juggle these instruments between them to suit the sounds to fit the venue as they go along through their performances. This is the music that is part of the soul of Ireland

October 31st & November 1st – Stirling Bridge
“Songs with Hair & Blood on Them”
Stirling Bridge is a two-piece band that began playing in the Twin Cities in 1987. Their repertoire consists of a healthy dose of Celtic songs as well as some Gospel, Country and Folk. The band stopped booking around 1995 and has come together again as of 2012. Bill McArthur (guitar and lead vocals) is a free-lance writer who has been a resident of the Twin Cities since 1960. J Williams (bass and harmonic vocals) is a manufacturing sales person born and raised in the Twin Cities. Since getting back together, while certainly growing older, Bill and J have honed their vocal craft and expanded their repertoire.

Vinnie Rose

May 31st Vinnie Rose 1:00 to 4:00 on the Patio
Vinnie Rose first took up music singing in his church and school choir at the age of 5. At age 12, trying to impress a girl, he took up guitar. The girl’s not around but the guitar proved to be in it for the long haul. Through his teens he taught guitar lessons, studied rock, jazz and classical guitar and voice and also enjoyed performing in community and regional events.
In 2007, Rose moved back to Minneapolis, MN and has become an established musician in the Twin Cities jazz and pop scene. Vinnie currently performs as an acoustic guitar and vocalist as well as freelances with jazz small groups, big bands, rock/wedding bands, acoustic groups, orchestral ensembles, and classical guitar settings.

June 1st Eric Olson 1:00 to 4:00 on the Patio
OlyEric Olson, nicknamed “Oly,” grew up in a small town on the St. Croix River (Stillwater) just outside Minneapolis, MN. Oly started playing drums at age 11, which is apparent in his rhythmic guitar playing. Oly began his professional singer/songwriter career in Colorado, where he founded the band Tunnel 6 in 1995. Touring successfully throughout CO, the band released its first album, “Tunnel 6,” in 1997 under the production guidance of Aaron Trooien. In 2002 Oly released a solo acoustic album, “Holly Would,” with producer Brad Witham. In 2004, Tunnel 6 was replaced by Oly’s next project, Stereomaid, again fronted by Oly and featuring his original songs and unique blend of rock, folk and punk. In 2008, Stereomaid released “The Little Things that Come Between Us,” produced by Greg McRae (Rose Hill Drive, Flobots). Notable shows included the Roxy in Hollywood, supporting Porcupine Tree at the Fox Theater in Boulder and helping causes important to Oly with a number of benefit shows. Oly also co-founded and fronted a popular 80’s tribute band, Huge in Germany, from 2004-2009, which opened for Jefferson Starship and Country Joe McDonald.

Oly returned to his Minneapolis roots in 2011 and moved to the St. Croix river valley where he first discovered music. In a nod to the great 70’s rock that has always influenced his musicianship, Oly released a 7″ vinyl record with Minneapolis freelance producer Ed Ackerson (Golden Smog, the Replacements) in 2012.
